Machine Operator – Auto Coiling

Position Summary

The Auto Coil position operates a variety of machines to fabricate lots or samples of coiled compression, torsion and extension springs from steel wire. You will start out running the machine with supervision, can then be promoted to running the machine alone, and eventually can become Set-Up Certified on that machine.

Essential Functions

  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings and set-up cards to make springs according to specifications
  • Strong understanding of machine tools such as arbors, coiling points, rollers, and pitch tools, with the ability to install such tools on the coiler
  • Use micrometers, calipers and other measuring tools
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Comply with OSHA safety and health rules

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking and bending throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.

Desired Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use simple math
